This application is due by 11:59 p.m. ET on Monday, 10/21/2024
Qualifications
- Minimum 2.85 cumulative WFU GPA
- No active sanctions or Honor Code violations
- Cannot be abroad in Fall 2025
- Cannot be a Resident Advisor (RA) for Fall 2025
- Cannot be a Pre-Orientation Leader for Fall 2025*
- *It is not always possible to a Student Advisor & a Pre-Orientation Leader due to overlapping commitments during New Deac Week
- Returning applicants must also obtain a reference check from their LDA pair (and first-year advisees, when possible)
Responsibilities
- Commit to a 10 month period of service (March 2025 – December 2025)
- Attend Spring 2025 and August 2025 training*
- *Move-in for Fall 2025 will likely be Monday, August 18th; the final date is TBD by RL&H
- Participate in all required New Deac Week (Orientation) events
- Maintain consistent communication with Student Advising leadership, LDA Pair, and first-year advisees (e.g., Top 10 Lists, etc.)
- Guide first-year advisees through the completion of “Academic Success,” an Extended Orientation module
- Check-in / meet monthly with first-year advisees
Competencies
- Consult and uphold the rules of the Academic Bulletin
- Have basic knowledge of academic policies, procedures, and curriculum requirements
- Assist Lower-Division Advisors with group & individual advising, during Orientation and beyond
- Answer general academic inquiries and make referrals, when appropriate
- Help first-year students complete registration and/or adjust schedules in Workday
- Connect advisees to campus resources
- Orient first-year and transfer students to academic life in The Forest
