First-Year Student Summer Advising 2026 To-Do List
Incoming first-year students will register for Fall 2026 courses in the summer. This page outlines an overview of what students need to do in the summer and concrete steps students can take to prepare for fall registration and their first semester at Wake Forest.

Review the following dates and associated tasks.
Students who plan to take CHM 111/L and MTH 111 in their first year should complete the ALEKS PPL Math Assessment. Due date: July 10.
If you are not expecting AP/IB credits for the foreign language you took in high school, you should complete the Foreign Language Placement Test. Due date: July 10.
Complete the Writing Course Decision Tool. The decision tool is designed to help you choose the best course based on your experiences with writing and your expectations for your first year at Wake Forest. Due date: July 10.
- ALEKS PPL Math Assessment is due by July 10.
- Foreign Language Placement Test is due by July 10, if you are not waiting on AP/IB scores.

Review Requirements for Degrees under the 2026-2027 Bulletin.
Review Departmental Course Guides for New Deacs. These guides recommend specific classes, by major, for your first semester (or year) at Wake Forest.
You should receive an email from your academic advisor with the information about Summer Advising and Registration.
Review the Planning for Registration page on the Office of Academic Advising’s website. Familiarize yourself with Workday by reviewing the helpful links and information on the Project WakeDay website.

Submit your AP and IB scores, and review the AP/IB Policy.

Check your registration appointment in Workday.
- Complete the ALEKS PPL Math Assessment by today.
- Complete the Foreign Language Placement Test by today, if you are not waiting on AP/IB scores.
- If you do not get an AP/IB score that places you into a foreign language course, you can still take the test after July 10.
- Complete the Writing Course Decision Tool by today.
- Review the AP/IB Policy.
- Check Workday to see which credits have been awarded using this job aid.
- Adjust your saved schedule based on your AP/IB credits as needed.
